Shackleton pushed the ‘Just in Time’ theory to its limits last week; 5 days after replacing our database server, the original server suffered a catastrophic and unrecoverable disk failure! In this instance ‘just in time’ was ‘just in the nick of time’. A timely reminder, if any were needed, that hardware failures are indiscriminate and back-up recovery procedures must be robust; in this instance we got lucky and saved hours of non-productive data recovery – let that be a lesson to us all.
We have also upgraded all of our internal servers and we are now running on the Windows Server 2008 platform.
