Shackleton reports from the 2016 Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce AGM & Business Showcase…
After the success of previous years, the Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce AGM 2016 and Business Showcase returned on Wednesday 24th August 2016 at the stunning Piperdam Golf & Leisure Resort. With a focus upon improving economic growth, strengthening commercial ties and developing a range of skills in the area, Team Shackleton were excited to be part of such an important and significant event for local businesses!
With expectations high after the accomplishments of last year’s event, Steve Ross, Shackleton Technologies M.D. said:
“Last year’s Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce AGM and Business Showcase was a great opportunity for Shackleton to network with a wide range of local businesses. Not only did we have the chance to reconnect with businesses we’ve known and worked with for a long time, it was also the perfect time to meet new local entrepreneurs and business owners. AGM 2015 was a very important occasion for everybody in the DACC, and we knew that we’d be back again this year.”
But, as many of you may already know, Shackleton didn’t just attend the AGM this year, we sponsored it! Steve continued:
“When we were asked to co-sponsor with Microsoft, we jumped at the chance to support the Chamber and local business. We’re really proud to be part of such a strong community of Dundee and Angus organisations, so this year I was happy to see well over 100 people attending the event.”
Alongside 24 other local businesses, Team Shackleton took part in the hugely popular DACC Business Showcase for the second year running. As well as manning the Device Bar with co-sponsors Microsoft, attendee’s were invited to the Shackleton stand for a one-on-one conversation with members of the team about all aspects of business information technology.
Phil Eldridge, Shackleton’s Senior Technical Engineer, found that there were some interesting trends when it came to the issues small businesses face with technology:
“Events like this are always an exciting opportunity for Team Shackleton. We get a chance to speak to new people about a subject we’re very passionate about! We noticed a lot of businesses this year asking about the Cloud – what it is, how it works and how it can benefit their company? Cloud Computing is so important for businesses of all sizes these days, and we’re only too pleased to spread the word to our fellow Dundee and Angus businesses!”
However, as always, the Business Showcase was about more than Team Shackleton helping local businesses with their tech problems. An important date in the Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce’s calendar, the event allowed members to reflect back on the previous 12 months and have their say about how the Chamber should proceed during the next year.
Newly appointed Chamber President, Colin Loveday, spoke in depth about the rich history of the DACC – and the Chamber of Commerce movement which goes back over 400 years! Mr. Loveday was also delighted to announce that the DACC annual report showed membership to the Chamber of Commerce was at an all time high. With such positive news, it seems that the last 12 months have been especially rewarding for Dundee and Angus local businesses.
Steve Smith, Shackleton’s Business Development Manager said:
“A lot of the time, it’s only at events such as the DACC AGM & Business Showcase that you appreciate just how much actually happens in Dundee and Angus. There are thriving businesses everywhere, and quite often you find yourself going “I didn’t know they did that in Dundee!” or “They make that in Angus? Wow!”. It’s a great feeling knowing that there’s a lot more going on than people realise.”
Once again, Shackleton is pleased to report that the Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce AGM & Business Showcase was a resounding success. More than ever, it seemed clear just how effective local businesses working together can be.
Thanks to everybody who ignored the urge to have a BBQ in the sunshine and came to see us instead, we had a great time meeting you!
